Neighbors of The Nave: Welcome to The Team Shop

The Team Shop store manager Lisa poses with their state-of-the-art equipment for printing custom designs in Spenard.

Neighbors of The Nave is a series of interviews, profiles, and updates related to our neighboring businesses and organizations located in the Spenard neighborhood of Anchorage, Alaska. The goal of this series is to amplify the positive efforts of local small business owners, artists, and community organizers to support and empower their neighbors. If you or someone you know would like to be featured, please contact us at info@thenavespenard.com.

After years of planning, The Team Shop recently moved in next door to The Nave at 3400 Spenard Rd. Store manager Lisa was kind enough to sit down with us for an interview so we could introduce our new neighbors!

Q: How did The Team Shop come to Spenard?

A: “We originally started out next door to Play It Again Sports. Then we bought The Trophy Shop, followed by TNT Sports in 2022. We had to merge the two stores together, and our location wasn’t big enough. We planned on 3400 Spenard initially, [and] once we were out of our lease, we came over here. We love Spenard!”

Q: Who does The Team Shop serve?

A: “Mostly sports. We started with hockey jerseys and then it went from there – baseball, softball, basketball, football. Now we’ve expanded to corporate, schools, and individual clients. We’ve done t-shirts for bus drivers, jerseys and trophies for Pickleball, BBQ competitions, cookoffs, cornhole tournaments, and even a “Best of Show” for Drive-In Movie cars! Local kids made cardboard cars, and we got to create that award. We can print anything on shirts, including photos, with the latest and greatest direct to film printers and heat transfer.”

Q: What’s your favorite thing about The Team Shop, and Spenard?

A: “It’s local! We know all our customers. When I see kids wearing our hoodies, I love saying ‘I made that one!” And we want to bring more people into Spenard. Our customers are from all over Anchorage and Eagle River, folks who don’t necessarily know Spenard – they come to Play It Again Sports and don’t know what else is around. I love this area, there’s a sense of community. The businesses that are here want to be here. We’re so happy to move back! Being part of the community is where we’d like to be.”

Q: Do you serve customers outside of our region?

A: We provide services for schools as far as St. Mary’s, Bethel, Nome, Kotzebue, Barrow…we serve the whole state. In Bethel, for example, mud volleyball is big up there. We love providing awards for them!”

Q: Is there anything else you want people to know?

A: “Just how many different things we can do here – trophies, jerseys, awards, apparel, mugs…We want to be everybody’s one-stop shop. Whether you need an employee-of-the-month award, swag for your sports team, or a single custom hoodie, we are proud to support you as part of the community.”
